COLIN HENDRY is under real pressure to deliver after Blackpool's miserable start to the season continued.

The Seasiders 4-0 trouncing at the hands of Stockport County has left the club firmly rooted to the foot of the embryonic league table, with a tough trip to last year's play-off semi-finalists, Hartlepool, on Saturday.

Blackpool are expected to welcome back Paul Edwards and Danny Coid after injuries, either from the start or from the bench, and Hendry is also hard at work looking for reinforcements. Lee Jones also came through a reserve match in midweek.

One criticism from fans has been the number of players played out of position, particularly Leam Richardson, a right-back at left back and Rob Edwards, a left back in central midfield.

And Hendry may also look again at the captaincy after Richie Wellens' struggled in the opening games.

The midfielder even volunteered for reserve team duty in midweek, playing in a 1-0 victory over Oldham at Boundary Park. The goal came from triallist Dean Gorre.

Saturday's game saw Blackpool once again struggle going forward and at the back.

Stockport winger, Danny Jackman, gave his side the lead on nine minutes, sneaking in at the far post to slide the ball past Sas Ilic.

The Seasiders were by no means out of it at this stage and Keigan Parker, playing up front with Scott Taylor switched to the left wing, managed to get in behind the Stockport defence on a couple of occasions.

The second time saw him dragged down from behind by Stockport's former Morecambe defender, John Hardiker, but the referee chose to book the diminutive Scottish striker for a dive, to the bemusement of the home fans.

But it got worse when new County signing, Warren Feeney, nipped between two Blackpool defenders and Ilic to add a second. Hendry must be getting used to difficult half-time team talks by now, and on this occasion his stirring words almost had an instant impact when Scott Taylor, working hard in an unfamiliar left-wing role, had the ball in the net only to see his effort chalked off for offside.

But Stockport retained control of the game and grabbed two more through the ever-lively Luke Beckett.

The only bright spot for the Seasiders was the form of former Stockport defender, Rob Clare, who again looked solid as a defender and comfortable on the ball. The free transfer signing even made the bench for the England under-21s in midweek. He looks a real star of the future. All he needs now is for his mates to follow his lead.
