NO sooner did you publish my letter in praise of the Archbishop of York, along comes the Right Rev Stephen Lowe!
The Bishop of Hulme's ludicrous tirade against the hymn "I Vow to Thee my Country" is just the sort of thing that is driving away from the church people of my generation -- but without replacing us with the young.
To suggest that the words are racist is absurd, after all our ethnic minority friends constantly tell us they are true Brits.
The Bishop chooses the pejorative "jingoism" when he could, and should, have said "patriotism."
