STEVE Cotterill hailed Robbie Blake after the Clarets centurion lit up Turf Moor with a weekend wonder goal.

Blake celebrated his 100th league appearance for Burnley by opening his account for the season with a magnificent solo effort against Wolves.

The strike, his first in ten games, maintained Burnley's unbeaten start to the season ahead of tomorrow's Carling Cup clash with Bury.

And new boss Cotterill hopes that Blake can now inspire his team mates to find the target themselves and blast Burnley into the second round at Gigg Lane.

"Robbie Blake is Robbie Blake and that is why I made him captain," said Cotterill.

"Everyone has been talking about him not scoring goals, but he saved up an absolute wonder goal for us, so I'm delighted for him.

"He is a wonderful player who expects high standards from himself, so I am delighted for him.

"With him scoring 22 goals last season, the focus has been on when he was going to score.

"But it's not just up to Robbie because we have enough goals in this team and it shouldn't just weight heavily on the captain's shoulders."

A rare Frank Sinclair mistake allowed Wolves to steal a march at Turf Moor before Blake's stunning equaliser spurred Burnley on to their best display of the season so far.

And Cotterill refused to point the finger for individual errors, insisting he was proud of his side's efforts against pre-season promotion favourites Wanderers.

He said: "Frank has been outstanding for us for three and a half games, but he's a human being and we all make mistakes.

"On another day he will do wonderful things. That's what happens with individuals and he will be fine."

Burnley, contrary to rumours, are not in the hunt for Manchester United youngster Chris Eagles.
