POLICE said a "rural watch" scheme aimed at cracking down on fly-tippers in countryside was enjoying continued success.
Officers, along with environmental health staff at Burnley Council, were able to act after a fly-tippper was pictured dumping rubbish in the scenic Thursden Valley. Police spokeswoman Paula Duxbury said: "Our rural watch scheme continues to slowly win the fight . Last week photographs of someone fly-tipping a large amount of cardboard half way up the Thursden Valley were taken along with the vehicle's registration number. "These were passed on to the Environmental Health people at Burnley Council by the local police. Arrangements were put in place not only to clean up the mess but to prosecute those responsible." Police Community Support Officer Dave Johnson added: "Anyone who may think about fly-tipping rubbish in the countryside is being watched."
