PEOPLE living in Blackburn with Darwen, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley are to have a new telephone number for out-of-hours doctors' services.

From September 1 Blackburn and District Medical Co-operative will provide service Mondays to Thursdays from 6.30pm until 8am and from 6.30pm on Friday to 8am Monday.

The number to ring is 08452 26 26 26. Calls will be charged at local rates but there will be no change to services from local GPs.

Blackburn with Darwen PCT and Hyndburn and Ribble Valley PCT have taken on responsibility for out-of-hours services following the introduction of the new contract for GPs earlier in the year.

The main treatment centre is at the purpose-built Primary Care Centre in Blackburn. Patients will be invited to the centre to be seen or, if they are too ill to attend, a doctor or nurse will visit them. The Co-operative will also hold surgeries in the Ribble Valley at strategic times in the evenings and at weekends.
