LEIGH Harriers' middle distance stars, Hannah Warburton and Lauren Howarth, continued a winning season representing Greater Manchester in the Northern Inter-Counties Championships.

Hannah carried on her string of outstanding performances finishing second in the U15 1500m clocking 4min 56sec, while in the same agegroup 800m club record holder Lauren crossed the line fifth in 2min 23sec.

The girls then took their places in a composite relay, Hannah running the 100m leg and Hannah the 600m, to help the squad to second spot.

Fell running sisters Dionne and Danielle Allan were in fine form in the penultimate race of the season, a testing two mile course in Sedburgh.

After the tough run which had a 1200ft climb Dionne finished second to stand joint first over the championship series with one race to go, while Danielle was fourth.

Leigh's GB international middle distance and cross country champion Peter Riley presented goody bags to youngsters who attended the last of three Norwich Union Star-track summer holiday athletics sessions at Charles Street.

Peter, who first joined the club at the age of 12 and returned recently as Britain's top cross county runner after four years on the American circuit, encouraged the 50 eight to 15 year olds, who attended the courses on all aspects of the sport, to join the club.
