THE assertion that 'Islam is not a racist religion' (LET, August 11), is technically correct, if somewhat disingenuous. Of course anyone can become a Muslim irrelevant of race.

However, Muslims are just as capable of intolerance and discrimination towards others as anyone else. Just because it is on religious rather than racial grounds does not make it more acceptable.

The point is that no-one, be they Christian, Jewish, Muslim or members of a particular political party, has the monopoly on bigotry, nor conversely an automatic right to the moral high ground on all issues.
