BLACKBURN Rovers manager Graeme Souness was today hoping to complete the signing of Morten Gamst Pedersen.

Souness confirmed last night that Rovers have now agreed an undisclosed fee with Tromso for the Norwegian international.

And Pedersen was due in Blackburn this morning to complete the formalities of a move, subject to a medical, with Souness's plan being to throw him straight into the mixer for Saturday's daunting meeting with Manchester United at Ewood Park.

The Rovers boss spent most of the summer in pursuit of Pedersen and now it finally looks as though he has got his man after Tromso accepted a new offer for their star player yesterday.

At one point, United were also said to be tracking the talented young Norwegian but now he could be in line to make his Premiership debut against them in a game Rovers could do to win after last night's 3-0 defeat at Arsenal left them with one point from three games.

"I understand we've agreed a fee and he'll be our player subject to a medical," said Souness.

"We've chased him for a long time and he's a young lad who scores goals from midfield.

"He's left-sided which is an area we feel we need to strengthen and hopefully he'll be our player in time for Saturday's game.

"It's then all about how quickly he can make the adjustment to our football."

With Javier De Pedro still some way short of full match fitness, Pedersen's arrival should give Souness greater attacking options on the left hand side of midfield.
