BRIGHTER Borough cash has helped breathe new life into a fading Labour Club.

Leigh West ward councillors have provided funds to develop a picnic and play area at the back of Wigan Road Labour Club which has been welcomed with open arms.

All will be revealed at an open day on September 11 (1-3pm).

Cllr Barbara Jarvis said a grassed area behind the club had been transformed with the help of the Brighter Borough allocation.

Five-a-side posts, swings, a slide and picnic tables have been provided and next on the agenda is a see-saw which is on its way from Sweden and should be installed before the 11th.

She said: "Since this work was done the club, which has a forward thinking new steward and secretary, has risen from the ashes. It is now well used as a sort of community centre and has a well-used secure outdoor site where mums and dads can sit and have a drink and keep an eye on the children.

"We are now in the process of trying for funds for a disabled toilet and ramp. The open day has been organised to show people what can be done with money available for brightening up the area."
