TODDLERS in Whitefield were sure of a big surprise when they accompanied their furry friends to a party.

The youngsters and their pals were invited to a teddy bear's picnic in the church hall at Stand All Saints, Whitefield.

Organised by the church-based mums and toddlers group, Little 'Uns, and in association with the Children's Society, the picnic featured lots of fun and games and good food.

The event raised £156 for a Children's Society project based in Manchester, entitled Safe in the City.

The scheme aims to help young homeless people living on the streets, providing them with practical help, advice and essential toiletries.

Children's Society representative for All Saints, Betty Heyworth, who helped to organise the event said: "We had a super afternoon. The weather was kind to us and we had lovely sunshine which meant we could allow the children to play outside."

Little 'Uns is open to all mums and their toddlers and meets in the church hall in Church Lane, every Tuesday morning and afternoon.
