TRY us out! That was the message that the local air cadets were giving youngsters at a special open day.

The Radcliffe, Whitefield and Prestwich Air Cadets squadron invited visitors to their headquarters in Knowles Street in Radcliffe, to help them learn about being a cadet.

And to give them a chance to find out for themselves what it is like, they are offering those interested a free month with the group.

Roy Cross, a cadet leader, said: "The aim of the day was to encourage young people to take up worthwhile activities. While they were at the open day, they could find out more about courses that can be done while in the cadets."

Members of the group put on a drill display and also helped provide information for the visitors who dropped in.

They also had the chance to sit in the cockpit of a jet and have their picture taken in full uniform and accessories.

The group meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, at the centre on Knowles Street centre. For more information contact Roy Cross on 856 8045.
