RUGBY fan Neil Blower is getting het up about the prospect of Leigh Centurions entering the home straight in the chase to move into Super League for the 2005 season -- and is sounding a rallying call.

With crowds below 2,000 at Hilton Park it suggests that Leigh people have yet to catch on to the importance of moving into the game's top flight and Neil is urging the town to get behind the team for the last games that are crucial to securing the elusive prize.

The Centurions have narrowly missed promotion three times out of the past four years and wouldn't it be great if supporters old and new turned out at Hilton Park at 3pm on Sunday September 5 for the match against Whitehaven?

The likelihood is that the winner of this game will top the Rugby League's National League 1 (and be in pole position to make the grand final by gaining home advantage for the game (probably against Whitehaven) at 3pm on Sunday September 26.

This game will be at Hilton Park if Leigh win on September 5 and up at the Recreation Grounds in Whitehaven if we lose. So, come on, be there and help save fans the trip to West Cumbria.

The third meeting with Whitehaven should be at the Halton Stadium in Widnes on Sunday October 10 when Leigh will hopefully win the game that gets them back into the elite competition.

I wonder how many lifelong fans saw the 1971 team win at Wembley and never set foot inside the club again -- like people I know. Of course ticket prices don't help.

It's a good call from Neil and I hope people will answer it. Top flight rugby again can only be good for the town.
