THE future of Old Standians FC appears to have been secured.

It was feared the club would cease to function after the managers of both the first and second teams, along with a number of committee members decided that they had taken the club as far as they could and quit.

But a number of players persuaded the club's former administrators to give them two months to prove the Ringley Road side had a future.

During that time enough players were recruited to register two squads in the Lancashire & Cheshire League for the coming season, and sponsorship deals with Superlux Windows of Manchester and Tommy Brady Painters & Decorators were arranged to fund kits and equipment.

They then got together and refurbished the clubhouse bar and lounge, and they are currently raising funds to bring the toilets, showers and changing rooms up to a decent standard for the fast approaching new season.

Neil Aldred (first team manager), Paul Tierney (first team coach), Warren Cahill (Treasurer) and a large proportion of the first and second team squads have given up weekends, week nights and what sunny days there have been this summer to ensure the clubs survival and hopefully growth.

Now to celebrate its survival and as a prelude to the new season, the club will be hosting a seven-a-side tournament this Sunday, August 29 at Ringley Road, where there will also be hot and cold food, drinks and prizes.
