Central Lancashire League: STAND made the trip to Yorkshire for the final time in the Central Lancashire League, after an unfit pitch had prevented play the previous day at Hamilton Road, when Milnrow were the scheduled opponents.

Walsden won the toss and invited Stand to bat first on a wicket which had produced over 500 runs the previous day.

Stand made a slow start and had reached 52-1 at the mid-point of the innings, as the two Walsden opening bowlers Plane and Barker kept it tight early on.

Australian professional Shaun Marsh entered the attack and bowled five overs of runs as Stand increased the run rate, with Fergusson and Holt taking a liking to him.

The second breakthrough didn't come until the 28th over, as David Blake (Wilky's brother) claimed the wicket of Fergusson for 26 with the score on 67. Holt fell almost immediately after for 20, bowled by Butcher.

Dave Taylor and John Seedle then added 26 for the fourth wicket before Seedle was bowled by Blake for 10.

Stand were in a handy position at 93-4 with 14 overs remaining, and thanks to some excellent batting from Taylor and Wright, added a 79-run partnership in the following 13 overs, before two run-outs claimed both wickets.

Taylor made 44 from 55 balls including five boundaries, while Wright hit 39 from 45 balls, including five boundaries. Wilkinson finished unbeaten on 7 and the Stand innings closed on 186-6.

The Yorkshiremen obviously felt more than capable of chasing the runs as skipper Mark Hooson decided to alter the batting order.

Butcher and Rawlinson opened the innings, with the latter playing a typical pinch-hitting role, whereas Butcher blocked everything at the other end.

Rawlinson got his side off to a flier hitting 32 off 27 balls before being bowled by Chris Holt in the 8th over with the score on 48.

Marsh then joined Butcher and the two added 77 before Butcher held out to Ritchie off the bowling of Moorhead as he departed for 40.

Marsh played a characteristic knock, hitting seven boundaries on his way to 45, before being caught and bowled by John Seedle with the total on 138-3.

This brought the two Barker brothers to the crease with 50 runs required for victory, and with the rain on the way the pair began batting like it was a test match.

Seedle removed Ste Barker (2) and it was left to former Todmorden captain Clayton to polish of the winning runs as he finished unbeaten on 26, as the Yorkshire side won with 6 wickets in hand and fourteen overs remaining.
