Leigh Centurions 26 Hull KR 22 by Mike Hulme: THE Centurions put a traumatic week firmly behind them to get their season right back on track.

Although outscored by four tries to three by an effective Hull KR side, an immaculate goalkicking display by Neil Turley secured an important victory.

Leigh gave debuts to both pre-deadline signings -- Craig Weston and Luke Isakka -- but it was a couple of the old hands who came up with the goods.

Turley, back in action after two weeks out with a damaged calf, kicked seven goals from eight shots in tricky conditions -- one from three metres inside his own half.

While Leigh were slightly out of sorts in attack considering the weight of possession they had, scrum-half John Duffy was an influential figure and always looked likely to create something.

The first of Turley's goals gave Leigh an early lead but within a couple of minutes Craig Poucher had crossed out wide for Rovers to put them ahead.

Leigh slowly took a stranglehold on the game and when Duffy put in a short kick to the line Chris Percival pounced to score. Turley's conversion and a penalty soon after made it 10-4.

A handling error by Heath Cruckshank helped Rovers draw level. Gifted possession close to the Leigh line, Rovers didn't waste the opportunity with Paul Mansson sending Andy Smith in for a try goaled by Poucher.

Two further penalties from Turley -- including his monster effort -- gave Leigh a 14-10 half time lead.

Early in the second half Oliver Wilkes forced his way under the posts and when Percival picked up his second after Phil Jones and Turley had broken the defence, Leigh were cruising at 26-10.

But Rovers were determined to make a fight of it and when sub Frank Watene went over twice in the final 14 minutes and Poucher added two conversions, Leigh had to sweat it out at the end.
