STEVE Cotterill is urging Burnley to give their supporters something to cheer against Gillingham today (3pm KO).

The Clarets are looking to bounce back to winning ways following a painful first defeat of the season at West Ham United on Saturday.

Both home league games have so far ended in draws, against Sheffield United on the opening day of the season and then against Wolves.

And Cotterill wants his team to make it third time lucky and capitalise on home advantage against a side they beat three times last season.

"We have to look forward now, said the Clarets chief. "Gillingham stole a march on us by playing last Friday night, but we just have to get on with it.

"So far, we've had a couple of draws at Turf Moor and it would be good to win for the fans, particularly those who travelled to West Ham to see us."

Cotterill feels the Clarets deserved a draw at Upton Park, where Adam Nowland's solitary strike proved enough to earn the hosts the spoils.

He said: "We didn't do enough going forward to get a win, so if we were going to get anything it would only be a point.

"We weren't ruthless enough, certainly in the first half when we had a couple of good chances.

"You are not going to get a lot of good opportunities when you come to a place like West Ham and when they do come along, you have to take them.

"The players won't take every chance that comes their way, but we have to live with that.

"They are only human beings and they are not always going to take them. But we did okay and there is nothing to get over worried about.

"We are five games in and we are still 10th, but it's important that we get back to winning ways and try to win a home game."

Former Burnley manager Stan Ternent has refused to comment on speculation linking him with the vacant Preston manager's job following the dismissal of Craig Brown yesterday.
