PRESTON triathlete Anna Willetts could be set to compete in the world's most prestigious triathlon in Hawaii, after a superb performance in the 1/2 Ironman UK Triathlon at Sherbourne, Dorset.
She finished second in her age group in the event at the weekend and will now have to wait to see if she is eligible to take part in the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon in October.
The Ironman UK Triathlon was the only event of this distance to be held in the UK this year.
It included a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride and finished off with a half marathon run of 13.1 miles.
Four other Tri Preston/Hewitt Cycles members competed in the event.
These included Heather Wells who bravely managed to complete the race despite losing the use of an eye after a bee got caught in her glasses and stung her when she was 30 miles into her bike ride.
The results of the Tri-Preston members were as follows: Anna Willetts, 6hrs 20 secs; Heather Wells,6hrs 2mins 57secs; Simon Cole, 6hrs 6mins 13secs; Tim Armitt, 6hrs 9mins 3secs; Dave Rigby, 6hrs 32mins 44 seconds.
The club will be holding its next meeting on Sunday at 6pm at the South Ribble Tennis Centre, Bamber Bridge.
