THE former ambulance station in Barnoldswick is set to be sold off after the council declared it surplus to requirements.

An offer of £87,500 has already been received for the adjoining land on Bank Street, which is expected to be used for a housing development.

Outline planning permission for a residential development was granted on February 16 this year.

Coun David Whipp told a meeting of Pendle Executive that the building had become a "pernicious problem" and action needed to be taken.

There were worries that the building was falling into a state of disrepair and that its condition was attracting vandalism.
