A MAN was due in court today charged with attempted murder after an alleged stabbing on a busy main road.

Steven Harvey of Preston New Road, Blackburn, was questioned by police over the weekend, after an incident around 6pm on Saturday evening, in which a 30-year-old man, also of Preston New Road, suffered a wound to the right side of his chest.

The victim, whose name has not been released by police, was allegedly stabbed outside a row of terrace houses on Preston New Road, in the Wensley Fold area.

Police say the incident happened on the street near the man's home.

The main road is lined with takeaways, hotels and small shops, along with just one pub, the Fox and Grapes.

Today a newsagent, who asked not to be named, said he was surprised at the incident.

He added: "It's a busy area, and there isn't normally any trou ble. There aren't really any pubs around here.

"I didn't know about this stabbing."

The victim was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary.

Police say the injury was serious but not life-threatening, and he is making a full recovery.

Police were called after a relative telephoned emergency services.

Harvey first appeared in court yesterday morning, but the case was adjourned for 24 hours.

He was remanded in custody until his appearance before Blackburn Magistrates today.
