AFTER reading the editorial comment today (LET, August 31), I seriously wonder what sort of world we are living in when you applaud the purchase of unbuilt flats by someone in London to sell on at a profit to the local people in Blackburn who have had no opportunity to even consider buying one.
What is clever about the Blackburn Royal Infirmary being sold for £4million when they were only expecting £1million? This will only be reflected in the prices ordinary people will have to pay to buy the houses built there.
Saturday we heard that the Lancashire Garden Centre is to become a Tesco. We thought we had a really lovely garden centre within easy reach.
I trust that when the council is compulsorily purchasing property in their regeneration scheme they will bear these inflated prices in mind.
