PRIMARY school teacher Margaret Hall is going back to her teens.

She is preparing to reprise one of her favourite roles -- the eponymous heroine in the spiffing yarn Daisy Pulls It Off.

Margaret will shed the years to play 14-year-old schoolgirl Daisy in the jolly hockey sticks production with St Joseph's Players.

The Leigh theatre company was forced into a rapid change when production difficulties caused the cancellation of the planned play The Ghost Train.

Director Doreen Johnson said: "With just a few weeks to rehearse we felt it would be enjoyable to replay one of our recent successes."

The play, written by Denise Deegan, was first staged at St Joseph's in May 1997 when enthusiastic audiences were delighted by the 1920s tale of scholastic high jinx mixed with the mystery of hidden treasure.

And Margaret, a teacher at Downall Green RC Primary, jumped at the chance to again don gymslip and join in the scrummy shenanigans in the Upper Fourth at Grangewood School for Girls.

"It's a lovely play with all-round appeal," she said. "It was great fun back in 1997 and I'm looking forward to Daisy's many trials and tribulations this time around."

Margaret will be joined by several of the 1997 cast including head girl Donna Wood, Barbara Mayers and Clare Nash as a prize pair of downright rotters, and Katherine Roberts, June Lee and Mary Roach as members of the austere school staff.

Nicola Reynolds, who played the school captain in 1997, this time switches to the role of Trixie, the madcap poet who becomes Daisy's staunchest ally.

The show will run from September 21-25. Tickets are available at Boardman's Outfitters on Bradshawgate, Leigh, or pay on the door.
