I AM writing to express my concern at the speed of traffic along Green Lane, Leigh. I have lived in this area for twenty years. During this time, I have become shocked at the increasing speed of vehicles in both directions.
Green Lane is a residential area, occupied by many families. Some have children or are elderly, and are especially at risk when crossing this road. One resident is a childminder and is also greatly concerned. I feel that it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt or even killed.
I have two young children and I am currently teaching them the importance of road safety. However, on a number of occasions, we have had to quickly jump back onto the pavement to avoid speeding traffic. The problem is compounded by the narrow footpaths, placing pedestrians in close proximity to vehicles travelling at great speed.
I am aware that road calming measures have been implemented on other roads in the area. These roads are wider, with broader footpaths. Surely some measures would be suitable for Green Lane? Does someone have to be killed before something is done? I sent a copy of this letter to the police six weeks ago, but have not received a reply as yet. Does anyone have any suggestions?
