THE Leigh side were a little disappointed not to provide a better display for the home supporters on what was only their fifth match on their home ground this season.

Lytham progressed steadily throughout their innings ending on 189 for 4 after 48 overs, but several chances were missed which could have put the Leigh side in a more commanding position.

Ross Shepherd and Steven Young once again bowled well at the top of the innings and were well supported by the spin trio of James Eccleshare, Mattie McKiernan and Umesh Patel.

Michael Eccles had his first real chance to bowl and performed admirably by taking 1 for 31 off nine overs. Eccleshare's figures didn't show the true story of his performance and his 1 for 41 could have been so much better if chances had been taken.

In reply Leigh once again suffered the loss of three early wickets, which appears to be a feature of their batting in recent times. However, Paul Blackburn knuckled down to the task in hand ending on 52 not out at the end, with James Eccleshare 21 and Michael Eccles 26 also showing some resolve.

Leigh maintain third position but next week brings one of the toughest matches of the season when they meet the Leigh Fourth Team in what is being heralded as the match of the year.
