LEIGH'S economy is better than it's been for years, with unemployment down, and wages and house prices up.
Unemployment has fallen to its lowest level for a generation, with only 2.3 per cent of people without work, according to a recent report.
And for those with jobs, the average weekly earnings increased by 10 per cent between 2000 and 2003, from £349.73 to £384.69.
The report, carried out by the Halifax, also found that house prices in Leigh have rocketed by 98 per cent in the last five years, to an average of £102, 731.
Leigh MP Andy Burnham welcomed the report's findings, but remained cautious.
He said: "While these new figures are encouraging, there will be no let-up in our efforts to being new investment and keep existing companies in our area."
