THREE sisters are showing the symptoms of success -- after each gaining a place at university to study medicine.

The former Coney Green Technology College students are following their dream to become doctors after passing their GCSEs and A-levels with flying colours.

Naheema Javed (21), is about to start her third year at Manchester University, but still has three years before she can specialise in one area of medicine.

Muqathas (19) and Shaista (18) will both start courses this month, with Muqathas joining big sister Naheema at Manchester and Shaista going to Liverpool University.

Naheema said: "I have always wanted to be a doctor. It is a lot of work, but it is very interesting. I enjoy it a lot."

Between them, the sisters, of Church Street, Walshaw, gained seven A grades and 2 Bs in their A-levels at Holy Cross College, Bury, although Muqathas at first found it difficult to get a place at university, despite three A grades.

She said: "The courses are very competitive and because I was not offered a place, I worked for a year for a local chemist. I'll still be working there while at university, and I am looking forward to starting."

Shaista will be the only one of the three sisters to move away from home to study.

The rest of the family are very proud of their sisters -- brother Adeel (14), a pupil at Elton High, and Aqeel (22) who runs a shop in Radcliffe, along with their parents, Javed Iqbal and Fakhar Nisa.

Naheema added: "I think my dad would really like it if we opened up a surgery together. It would be great because we all get on so well."
