RAMSBOTTOM United go into their FA Cup adventure buoyed by their midweek draw at league leaders Bacup Borough.

The Rams destroyed Bacup's 100 per cent start to the season with a resolute performance being rewarded by a goalless draw.

And, manager Derek Egan was understandably delighted with his charges: "We fully deserved our point and could really have won it.

"We recovered well from Saturday and I was pleased with how positive and tenacious we were.

"We created a lot of chances and put them under sustained periods of pressure. We could see the Bacup players struggling under that pressure."

Looking back at the Alsager defeat, Egan said: "It was our first defeat of the season but we just had an off day.

"Alsager were better than us on the day and we weren't at the races. However, Wednesday night showed that we are back on track."

And, the Rams kick off their FA Cup campaign with a home tie against Albany Northern League side Evenwood Town tomorrow at the Riverside.

Egan said: "I don't really know much about Evenwood to be honest but they always tend to be strong sides from up in the North East.

"It's a chance for some of the lads to come in and show me what they can do because we do have a few injuries at the moment.

"Obviously, we would like a cup run but the league is the most important thing for me."

Evenwood have had a poor start to their season and have yet to register a win; returning two points from their first four games of the league season.

The winners of the tie will earn the right to host either Marske United or Welsh side Colwyn Bay.

Egan will hand a chance to some of his fringe players with Chris McKay and Adam Cooke picking up knocks during the Bacup game.

THE Rams are at home again on Tuesday when they welcome Fleetwood Town to the Riverside.
