BACUP BOROUGH ... 0

RAMSBOTTOM UNITED ... 0

North West Counties League Division One

THE Rams left West View with mixed feelings after gaining a well-deserved point against Bacup Borough.

However, a series of missed chances and a little misfortune denied Derek Egan's side claiming all three points.

After a disappointing defeat in their previous match the Riverside outfit were looking to get back on track and they successfully did this in terms of their performance, both defensively and offensively with only the final product missing.

The Rams thought they had been given a dream start after only five minutes when a well worked corner from Adam Cook and Chris Mackay caused enough confusion inside the Bacup six yard box, leaving John Blackley the opportunity to force the ball over the line but the assistant referee soon raised his flag.

Mackay was soon involved in the action once again when his stinging drive from the corner of the penalty box was parried around the post by Felgate.

The visitors continued to dominate both possession and openings and it was no surprise when a clever through ball from Bernard Morley gave Michael Saunders the best chance of the half when faced with a one-on-one with Felgate inside the penalty box.

Unfortunately, his low shot was deflected around the post by the leg of Felgate, and although he spread himself well there was a hint of fortune in the way the ball ricocheted behind the goal.

The second half was a disappointment as a spectacle with both sides attempting to push forward but taking care not to leave any space behind the back four.

The home sides' best opportunity to get a goal appeared to be from set-pieces and although they gained numerous good positions, the final ball was very poor.

On 62 minutes, Cook again found space on the left wing and his inch perfect cross found Morley but his rising drive crashed against the crossbar and flew away to safety.

The small contingent of travelling supporters were thinking that maybe this was not the Rams' night and were worrying about a breakaway goal.
