A GRASSED area at Whitehead Park in Bury is to be turned into a car park.
The south west area of the park on Lonsdale Street will be become an asphalt car park with 26 spaces.
The application was passed by Bury Council's planning committee on Tuesday (Aug 31).
Bury Council said that the development would improve the facilities and would be of particular benefit to disabled users.
Objectors questioned the loss of space in the park, the discomfort for local residents during construction and the loss of trees.
But planning bosses considered the objections insufficient to outweigh the recommendation for approval.
