THOUSANDS of fans are expected to join a celebration party tomorrow (Saturday) to honour Bury's Olympic boxing hero Amir Khan.

Amir, wearing his coveted silver medal, is due to appear on the steps of Bolton Town Hall at 10.30am.

The 17-year-old, who developed his talent at Bury Amateur Boxing Club from the age of 11, will later be the guest at a private civic dinner.

Last-minute plans were also being thrashed out for Amir to tour his home town of Bolton in an open-top bus prior to the civic reception.

Bury Council leader John Byrne has echoed the praise being heaped on the teenage star.

"We obviously send him our congratulations on his success." he said. "He displayed such talent and acquitted himself admirably in the final when he came up against one of the world's leading amateur boxers."
