BURY South Conservatives have chosen the man they hope will unseat Labour at the next General Election.

Alex Williams (29), a councillor for Altrincham on Trafford Council, is the party's prospective Parliamentary candidate to take on education minister Ivan Lewis, who has held the seat since 1997.

He lives in Hale and works at a professional services firm in Manchester city centre.

Mr Williams said it was a privilege to be chosen, adding: "I look forward to campaigning on the issues of concern to us all, including crime, education and our local public services, and meeting as many people as possible in the constituency."

Mr Tony Barlow, chairman of the Bury South constituency, said: "His family connections with Bury South, his political experience and his locality make him an ideal prospective candidate. We look forward to working with him in what promises to be a very well fought campaign."
