HORSE-LOVER Hannah Knaggs became the mane attraction as she shed her lovely long locks for charity.

The pretty 28-year-old said "goodbye" to her shoulder-length blonde hair and opted for a short skinhead style in aid of the International League for the Protection of Horses.

And Hannah's brave stunt at the Farmers Arms pub, in Simister, raised almost £900 for her chosen charity.

Hannah, who lives in the village and is the secretary of Simister and Prestwich Bridleways Association, said of the hair-raising feat: "I was really nervous at first but I'm glad I did it. There was a great atmosphere in the pub and I had lots of support from friends and family."

Shaving Hannah's tresses was a gradual process and friends paid a donation to cut off a lock with scissors, then she charged them more to have a go with the clippers.

Retired barber Bill Souter finished off the job and made her new crop presentable.

Hannah added: "Bill was really good at encouraging people to part with their money! Even my dad had a go, and he wasn't very impressed with the idea at first."

Hannah, who works at Antalis paper merchants in Pilsworth, is pleased with her new look and has had compliments from people saying she suits the style. "It feels really weird," she said, "but I quite like it."

Hannah is trying to raise £2,500 for the charity which will enable her to work on a cattle drive for the Montana Challenge 2005.
