BLACKBURN and District branch of Topliners reported enrolling its tallest ever member. Twenty three year-old German Ursula Hartung, who lodged at Somerset Avenue, Wilpshire, stood 6ft 3in tall. She told members of the women's social group how she could not find skirts, stockings or dresses long enough so had to wear jeans and sandals.

FRIENDS and family of two Huncoat sisters turned out in force to celebrate the pairs' double wedding. Letita and Colette Balmer, of Rydal Close, tied the knot at St Anne's RC Church, Accrington. Letita, 19, married Wayne Shepherd, of Herbert Street, Padiham. Colette, 17, married Graeme Glen, of Rishton.

BEEFY Brian Tattersall took a step closer to his dream of becoming Mr UK when he won the regional heat of the competition. The Ribble Valley hunk was crowned Mr North West after wowing the judges with his rippling biceps. The 24-year-old dancer and singer of Abbey Croft, Whalley, paraded in sportswear, a dinner suit and took part in a question and answer session to secure his place.
