THE Accrington branch of the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA) is launching its annual Wings Appeal this month.

During the week beginning Monday, September 13, members of the association will be asking peopleto dig deep and donate as much as they can for the appeal.

There will be collections in supermarkets and around the town.

The Wings Appeal was set up by the RAFA to commemorate the Battle of Britain, the aerial conflict between British and German air forces in the skies over Britain in the Summer and Autumn of 1940.

The Association receives no public funding, but needs to raise £8million every year to provide the level of welfare and care that its members require and the Wings Appeal helps towards that target.

Support from the RAFA does not just go to veterans of the Second World War, but also to veterans of more recent conflicts such as the Falklands, Bosnia and the Gulf.
