GREENMOUNT'S title challenge was de-railed at the weekend despite a convincing victory over Heaton.

However, the villagers lost pace with the leaders after going down to defeat to a tenacious Tonge outfit.

Greenmount batted first at Heaton and openers Andy Bowker (59) and Gary Chadwick (39) set the tone with a hundred partnership.

Their foundations were built on by pro Nishit Shetty and Dave Morris as Mark Fallon's side compiled a match-winning 208 for 6.

Heaton were overawed by their target and were soon all back in the hut for a meagre 95 as Mark Stewart returned 5 for 24 from 15 testing overs.

Ryan Senior got in on the act with three wickets of his own to ensure Greenmount went into their Tonge clash buoyed.

The villagers were inserted and the failure of any front line batsman to convert a decent start into a hundred proved crucial.

Chadwick, Shetty, Morris and keeper Paul Blinkhorn all made got in but disciplined bowling kept the score down to 152 for 9 in 30 overs.

In reply, Ryan Senior removed Tonge opener Ishmail but Nisar and Partington rallied and edged their side towards the victory target, that was eventually achieved for the loss of just four wickets, leaving Mount's title dreams all but dead.
