OLIVER Newby, the 20-year-old Blackburn seam bowler, enjoyed an outstanding match for Lancashire 2nd XI against Derbyshire this week.

The tall right-armer, who made his Championship debut against Northants in June, smashed his first ever century and then claimed six wickets in the Derbyshire second innings.

Newby reached 133 and helped Lancashire recover from a poor start to post an impressive 488 in their first innings.

His second innings haul then left the Red Rose 108 to win in just nine overs, which they reached with more than two overs to spare.

Lancashire skipper Warren Hegg is excited by the youngster and said: "He was out best bowler at Liverpool against Northants and we have high hopes for him."
