MARKET traders in Rawtenstall have launched a petition to press council bosses to re-employ a market manager.
Traders fear their livelihoods are being put in jeopardy after being left without any management for more than six months.
Rawtenstall's former market manager, Steve Caswell, vacated the role in January, leaving the council's environmental health team with the job of collecting rents. Joan Whiteley, who has been running stalls on the market for 24 years, is encouraging shoppers and traders to sign the petition under the headline: 'Fight for the Right to Proper Management'.
The traders' representative is to present the petition to the council. Mark Weston, director of corporate support, has assured traders the role will be filled following a re-organisation of council staff.
