A POLICE patrol and dog handler managed to spot a would-be burglar while they were searching for a missing person at the time, a court heard.
Paul Handley, 19, of The Pool House, Loundslack Farm, Haslingden, appeared in front of Bury magistrates and admitted possessing articles in connection with theft or burglary.
Magistrates adjourned the case for pre-sentence reports and Handley, who was granted bail, will return to court to be sentenced on September 29.
Ian Walsh, prosecuting, said the police patrol and dog handler were out in the area of Rochdale Old Road in the early hours in connection with a missing persons inquiry.
Handley was spotted acting furtively near property in the area. Police found him in possession of a torch and two screwdrivers.
He said he had only been on his way to the garage to buy some milk and always carried a torch to see his way.
Mr Walsh said the defendant's argument did not hold up because he had no money on him and could offer no reason for having the screwdrivers.
