IF you wondered what happened to the old Soviet Union Politburo it found a home in Bury's council chamber!
The USSR was a repressive regime and everyone knew that, so no-one expressed their views publicly or made protests. Here we believe -- foolishly -- that we live in a democracy. Our opinions matter and we have the right to influence decision-making.
How wrong we are. We were given two weeks to air our views and make objections to the building of flats at Mill Road, Walmersley, when the decision had effectively already been made.
This is the kind of "democracy" that our council presides over. What a mockery! At least the old Soviet Union was an honest dictatorship.
