I UNDERSTAND the ridiculous humps and bumps on Windermere Road, Walmesley Road and Bengal Street in Leigh were installed as a safety measure for the protection of schoolchildren.
Fair enough. But the measures are entirely out of proportion to the needs and show no consideration for other road users during non-school hours.
There are 190 school days each year. If we allow one hour for arrivals each morning, one hour at lunchtime and one hour per afternoon for departures we get three hours per school day when protection is needed. So for 21 hours each school day protection is not required.
There are 175 non-school days per year when protection is not required at all -- regulation gone mad.
What consideration has been given to residents and visitors to this area who are forced to negotiate the ridiculous number of humps and bumps during the not required periods?
There is no alternative route for visitors to Grasmere Street clinic and what effect do the obstacles have on ambulances, fire engines, hearses and other essential service vehicles.
The school-run mothers, fathers and grandparents do not help the problem when they park illegally on double yellow lines then stand gossiping.
Can I ask the authorities to rethink this issue.
Ouch! Ouch!
