A MAN suffered serious head injuries after an assault in Blackburn last night.
Police were today appealing for information to help identify the man, who is believed to be around 50.
He was taken to Blackburn Infirmary shortly after 6.40pm after being found in the Oakenhurst Road area.
His condition is described as "serious."
A 21-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and was due to be questioned by police today.
Inspector Phil Davis said: "A call was made to the ambulance service at 6.40pm that there had been an assault in Oakenhurst Road.
Ambulance and police attended and found a man with serious head injuries.
"We would ask anyone with information about the assault, which occurred somewhere between Oakenhurst Road and Montague Street at around 6.30pm, or the injured man to contact Blackburn CID on 01254 353569 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
The man is between 40 and 50 years, 5ft 6ins, slim, with receding greying hair, a full ginger beard and a ruddy complexion.
He has an operation scar on his left hip and no front teeth on his upper jaw.
He was wearing a grey fleece, dark blue jeans and dark blue suede trainers.
