POLICE had the blues at Colne's annual music festival because they were supposed to have the weekend off.
The Mayor of Pendle, Coun Dorothy Lord complained at Colne and District Committee's meeting about the number of 'miserable' police at the Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival.
Insp Richard Clare replied that officers 'did not want to be there' because they expected to be at home with their families. He said: "I'd say 90 per cent of those officers did not want to be in Colne.
"It was their weekend off and at fairly short notice they had their weekends cancelled.
"Their previous weekend was cancelled because of a high profile match between Burnley and Wolves."
