BACUP Borough boss Brent Peters was happy with the performance but not the result as his side were held 1-1 at home by Nantwich Town in the NWC League's top flight.

They made a flying start when Darren Emmett headed Bacup in front, but Peters was unhappy with the defending that allowed Lawton to bag an equaliser just 12 minutes later.

"For long periods of the first half our play was some of the best that we have produced," said Peters.

"And we should have gone in at half-time a goal up, but instead we conceded one of the sloppiest goals that I think I will ever see.

"That goal seemed to flatten us and we never really recovered."

Emmett and Lee Wilkinson had both tested the Nantwich keeper during the Bacup purple patch, but the visitors had sounded a warning with a 'goal' being ruled out for offside just two minutes before they forced an equaliser.

"The positives were that we played some controlled football in all areas, and that we can take heart from," said Peters.

"The negative side was that the positional performance of our defenders was not up to scratch.

"Had we got that aspect of our game right then we would have been looking at a winning outcome."

There was no joy for Colne who were beaten 1-0 away at Stone Dominoes - Bayley getting the winner three minutes from time.
