BURNLEY boss Steve Cotterill has boosted his numbers by signing two trialists on short-term contracts.

French winger Jean Louis Valois was a surprise inclusion for Saturday's 3-0 win over Crewe, where he featured as a late substitute.

And fellow Frenchman Amadou Sanokho has also joined the Clarets from Italian Serie 'D' side AC Sanguistese.

Cotterill said: "We have taken a touch of a gamble with the pair of them, but we have taken them on short-term contracts because of the workload coming up.

"We just thought we had six games in 19 days coming up and we were very light with still being without Micah Hyde for another two games.

"We needed a couple more bodies and financially it has worked out very well bringing them both in, so we will see what happens."

Valois, 30, is a free agent having featured in one game this season for Clyde, where he scored the winner in a Bell's Cup tie against Stranraer.

The gifted former La Duchre, Auxerre and Gueugnon winger first made a real impact at Lille, before joining Luton Town in 2001 and scoring on his debut to become an instant cult figure at Kenilworth Road.

Valois scored six goals in 34 appearances for the Hatters before earning a move to Scottish Premier League side Hearts in 2002.

However, after two years at Tynecastle, Hearts chose not to renew the player's contract as a cost-cutting exercise following the collapse of his proposed move to Spanish Second Division side Almeria.

The left winger then set his heart on a move to England and spent three days training with Leeds United before appearing for Clyde and then Burnley, where he now hopes to resurrect his career.

Sanokho, who did not make the bench for Saturday's Turf Moor victory over Crewe, is a rangy central midfielder who featured prominently for Italian amateur side AC Sanguistese last season.

However, he too is keen to establish himself in England and will be hoping for a chance to impress at Turf Moor.
