THE speculation has already begun in regard to who might follow Mark Hughes to Blackburn Rovers in the January transfer window, writes ANDY NEILD.

Depending on what national paper you read, Robbie Savage, John Hartson and Jason Koumas are all said to be Ewood bound in the New Year.

But of the Welshmen on duty at Old Trafford on Saturday, classy centre-back Danny Gabbidon would perhaps add the most to Rovers' squad.

As Wales struggled, the Cardiff City defender had his work cut out against a three-pronged England attack of Michael Owen, Jermain Defoe and the brilliant Wayne Rooney.

But the 25-year-old did enough to suggest that he may have a promising career ahead of him in the Premiership.

Rovers are crying out for a central defender with pace and composure and Gabbidon has the potential to be a star in the not-too-distant future.

Two last-ditch challenges to thwart Rooney and Owen in the second half alluded to that but he wouldn't come cheap.

"I'd love to see him play for Cardiff City in the Premiership but I suspect he'll be gone before then," said Terry Phillips, a journalist at the Cardiff Echo.
