WITH reference to Joan Stafford's letter (LET, October 5) the Sudan is indeed a man made crisis.
Since its Independence in 1956 it has suffered civil war except when peace has broken out for a few years now and then.
In 1989 the National Islamic Front (NIF) took power by military coup. It represents no more than about five per cent of the Sudanese people. It took power and maintains power by military force.
Where you have five per cent of the population imposing its will (by force) on 95 per cent of the population then you have a recipe for disaster and the reason that our government and others have stood by and done nothing is because they have not found oil there yet.
