A MAN suffered a broken cheekbone in a row over a 19-year-old woman, police revealed today.
The 56-year-old man was injured at the junction of Exchange Street and Stevenson Street West, in Accrington town centre, just after midnight on Monday. He was today being treated in Blackburn Royal Infirmary for serious facial injuries, which also included bruising.
A 19-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident but was released on bail pending further inquiries. Inspector Steve Howarth said the police were keen for witnesses to come forward.
He added: "It happened in the street and it is quite a busy part of town.
"We appreciate the time but it maybe that people passing by have seen this incident.
"We would appreciate anybody coming forward who can add to the picture."
