BURNLEY'S youth team continued their impressive start to the season with a fifth successive win at the weekend.

The Clarets overcame a dogged display from Rochdale to earn a 1-0 away win thanks to Kyle Lafferty's predatory first minute strike.

The Northern Ireland U18 international struck home a loose ball from 12 yards to register his second goal of the season.

However, youth team coach Terry Pashley admitted his side's display was arguably the worst of the season - and wants a big improvement at home to Blackpool this weekend.

"Kyle scored a great goal in the first minute, but we just never pushed on from there," he said.

"It ended up being the worst we have played all season and I'm at a bit of a loss to explain why.

"It wasn't just that we had two or three players off colour - we had seven or eight.

"But we will take the positives and to be fair, that is the first time this season it's happened.

"Things are not too bad when you are playing badly and winning though, and that is what we've told the boys.

"So we will put it down as a one-off and take a good look at them in midweek ahead of the Blackpool game."

Alex Taylor spurned a good chance to make Burnley's latest victory more convincing, before goalkeeper Michael Hale kept the slender lead intact with several fine stops.
