CARL Fogarty memorabilia with an estimated price tag of £55,500, including his first ever world Superbike trophy, will go under the hammer next weekend.

The 59 lots are part of a collection belonging to the Blackburn race legend's father, George Fogarty, and will be auctioned off by Bonhams during The Classic and Motorcycle Mechanics Show at Stafford County Showground on Sunday.

The memorabilia ranges from team jackets worth an estimated at £100 to £200 to Carl's first ever road-race award, The Dave Monks trophy, at £1,500 to £2,000.

Bonhams have estimated Carl's first restricted road race licence is worth £500, his framed champions certificates for 1988 and 1989 TT Formula 1 World Championships are worth £1,000 each, along with many trophies and medals.

But among the most expensive of the lots is expected to be the 1994 World Superbike Championship Trophy, the first of Carl's unequalled four World Superbike Championships, which should reach £2,000 when bidders get their chance to buy.

Or for around £500, bidders will have the chance to buy Carl's 1994 Dianese leathers or his Lazer Petronas helmet, worn during his first World Superbike Championship at Donington Park.

When the sale was first announced earlier this year, Carl said it had not been prompted by a family bust-up and his spokesman added: "He has a garage full of memorabilia and he has no need for any of the stuff George is selling."

Carl declined to comment further on the sale today and his father was unavailable.

George will also be keen to see how eight lots relating to his own racing career get on at the auction.

His three Isle of Man TT silver replica trophies, four bronze replica trophies and a Southern I.O.M. 100 Championship cup awarded for a first place win are estimated to sell at between £1,440 and £2,580.

Viewing will be on Saturday and before the start of the memorabilia sale, which begins at 11am on Sunday.
