WARREN Hegg on Tuesday resigned as skipper of Lancashire, after one of the worst seasons in the club's history ended in relegation from the Frizzell County Championship First Division.
Mark Chilton will take his place with Stuart Law vice-captain.
Hegg, skipper for three years, said: "It has been a great honour but now the time is right to step down and concentrate on helping the team recapture its position in the Frizzell County Championship Division 1. The new captain will have my 100 per cent support and commitment."
Chairman Jack Simmons added: "Warren has been a very passionate Lancashire captain and we thank him for his contributions."
Chilton said: "It's a great honour to be offered the captaincy of Lancashire. I am looking forward to working alongside the management team to further our success."
Manager Mike Watkinson said: "Warren has done a great job but now we look forward to 2005 with Mark in charge. He has excellent qualities in key areas and with Stuart at his side will be well equipped to take the team forward."
