IT'S a bit rich that certain Blackburn with Darwen councillors are laying the blame for Queen's Park School's problems on Lancashire County Council, who last had any responsibility for the school over six years ago.
They seem happy to take sole credit for any plaudits that have come their way during the same period of time (e.g. Council of the Year 2002) with neither mention nor praise for how well LCC had done with all the groundwork.
But as soon as the going gets tough - and they are rightly criticised for providing a poor service at this school - they go back six years and blame LCC for the 'deep rooted problems' which they have found insurmountable.
Well, the school was not in 'special measures' when managed by LCC, and neither was Moorland High School, Darwen.
So my message to Councillors Kate Hollern and Dave Hollings is "face up to your responsibilities, and don't blame others. Six years is more than long enough to put things right, and if you can't do it, hand over to someone who can."
Their decision to shut the school in April, and to open it a couple of months later as a supposed 'new' school, is one of the most nonsensical things I've heard for a long time!
